17th Joint Meeting of the ENIC and NARIC Networks, 20-22 June 2010; Sèvres, France
July 14, 2010
The joint meeting of the ENIC and NARIC Networks (European Networks of Information Centres in the European Region and the National Academic Recognition Information Centres in the European Union) was a platform for personnel from both networks to share and update information in the area of qualification/degree recognition. EUA attends these meetings as an observer.
Of particular interest to EUA was the presentation of the final draft revision document of the “Recommendation on Criteria and Procedures for the Assessment of Foreign Qualifications” one of the first subsiding texts of the Lisbon Recognition Convention (LRC) by Carita Blomqvist, President of the Lisbon Convention Committee. The revised document opens its scope to the recognition of qualifications issued also in non-signatory countries of the LRC and codifies established best practice not only among credential evaluators, but among “competent recognition authorities”, including, in a lot of cases, also HEIs and universities.
The networks furthermore established a new working group on the recognition of prior learning, which will include EUA and other key stakeholders. The terms of reference will be drafted by the ENIC Bureau and the NARIC Advisory Board.
Another project that was presented was CoRe 2, which stands for “Competences in Education and Recognition”. The anticipated outcome of this project is a user friendly guide specifically targeted at the academic staff who usually write the information on particular study courses for the degree profile. The guide will consist of a single template for degree profiles and guidelines for completing the degree profile and for writing learning outcomes, and will include a glossary of terms to ensure coherent terminology.
The 17th Joint Meeting took place at the Centre international d'études pédagogiques (CIEP) – which is home to the French ENIC-NARIC Centre.
