18 November 2016
The EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held a meeting in Brussels on 17 November 2016. The event, “Promoting synergies on EU-CELAC academic & scientific cooperation,” brought together stakeholders from both regions and provided a platform to discuss different avenues and opportunities for collaboration.
EUA Secretary General Lesley Wilson was invited to the event and spoke about the Association’s previous experience in bi-regional cooperation with Latin America through the Alfa PUENTES project and goals for the future of EU-CELAC academic and scientific cooperation, underlining the need to further develop the role and impact of universities in this process.
Discussion topics also included Erasmus+ as a tool for cooperation, building the EU-CELAC Common Research Area and the link between higher education and research and innovation.
The Hamburg based EU-LAC Foundation (The European Union - Latin America and the Caribbean Foundation) organised the event with the support of the European Commission.
