Ted Mitchell is the new President of the American Council on Education (ACE)

07 September 2017

Ted Mitchell, a former college president and top higher education official in the US Department of Education, has taken over as President of the American Council on Education as of 1 September. He succeeds Molly Corbett Broad, former President of the University of North Carolina, who has led the Council since 2008.

The American Council on Education (ACE) is the largest association of colleges and universities in the United States, representing nearly 1800 college and university presidents. It is the only major higher education association to represent all types of US accredited, degree-awarding institutions.

EUA enjoys close relations with ACE. The two organisations regularly cooperate and foster dialogue on international higher education policy issues. The Transatlantic Dialogue series, a joint initiative by EUA, ACE and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (now Universities Canada), brings together European and North American university presidents on a biennial basis to discuss and share perspectives on current higher education topics and policy developments. The next Transatlantic Dialogue will take place in 2018.
