Putting European principles on learning and teaching into practice

31 January 2018

The European Forum for Enhanced Collaboration in Teaching (EFFECT) project organised a focus group meeting on 31 January 2018 on the topic of institutional strategies for learning and teaching. The meeting expanded on the working paper European Principles for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching that was published in November 2017 and endorsed by the EUA Council.

The event was hosted by EUA in Brussels and brought together senior representatives from 12 higher education institutions from Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The participants shared experiences on how they had engaged with the themes covered by the principles and discussed ways to enhance institutional strategies for learning and teaching.

Over the next three months, the attendees of the event will try to use these principles as a framework for enhancing their own institutional strategies and education mission at their home institutions. Their feedback will be discussed in a debriefing seminar and will feed into an institutional strategy support package, which will be one of the main outputs of the EFFECT project. In addition, the lessons learned from this initiative will be included in a feasibility study to be published by September 2018. This feasibility study aims to assess various scenarios for European-level structures that could support the enhancement of learning and teaching.
