EUA calls for increasing EU investment in research, innovation and higher education post-2020

08 March 2018

In order to meet political ambitions and societal needs, the European Union needs a good working budget and will have to revisit its investment priorities for the future so as to be able to address the challenges Europe is facing and ensure sustainable development. Cooperation in research and education is a key facilitator to achieve these goals and should therefore be a top investment priority of the Union for the future.

While the mid-term reviews of the current EU funding programmes (2014-2020) have taken place very recently, the discussion on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) post-2020 (the EU’s long-term financial planning), is now beginning and the European Commission has launched various public consultations on priorities with a view to preparing its proposal that is expected in May this year. EUA has responded to the consultations in the areas of research, mobility & values (Erasmus+) and regional development, to advocate for sufficient and sustainable funding for universities, together with further simplification of EU programmes in these areas.
