Registration open for 2nd EUA Funding Forum, University of Bergamo, Italy (9-10 October 2014)

EUA is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its 2nd Funding Forum, taking place at the University of Bergamo in Italy from 9 to 10 October. The event is aimed at all higher education funding stakeholders – including university leaders and managers, researchers, students, as well as representatives of public authorities, public and private funders and partners.


Photo: © Dimitri Salvi (Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore e Cappella Colleoni) This second edition focuses on the theme: “designing strategies for efficient and sustainable funding of higher education in Europe”, a key question of the ongoing EUA-led DEFINE project.


The programme of the 2nd EUA Funding Forum provides participants with opportunities to learn and debate a series of key issues connected to the ongoing restructuring trends in the higher education landscapes of Europe. EUA will present its latest research on performance-based funding in the university sector, mergers and concentration processes, and funding for excellence. Its annual Public Funding Observatory update will also feature at the event.

Institutional Evaluation Programme: Renewal of ENQA membership and registrations for the 2014/2015 round

EUA is pleased to announce that its Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) has had its full membership of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) renewed for five years, until 2019.

Rankings in Institutional Strategies and Processes (RISP) roundtable

Around 25 university leaders and senior managers from 19 countries across Europe gathered in Brussels on 5 June for a roundtable organised in the framework of the EUA-led project on university rankings entitled: “Rankings in Institutional Strategies and Processes” (RISP). The event was organised in order for the project team to engage in further data collection as well as to discuss and get feedback on the preliminary findings of the RISP project.

EUA attends 3rd Global Research Council Annual Meeting

EUA was invited to the Third Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) which took place from 27 to 28 May in Beijing, China, and was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Mobility Policy-Practice Connect: National mobility and internationalisation strategies in Lithuania and Hungary

The second and third country workshops and focus groups of the project “Mobility Policy-Practice Connect” (MPPC) have recently taken place in Vilnius and Budapest, respectively, with the aim of examining and enhancing current national mobility strategies.

EUREQA study visits support development of internal QA through knowledge sharing

Over the course of spring a series of study visits took place as part of the EUREQA project coordinated by EUA. Representatives of eight partner institutions in the Western Balkans visited their colleagues in EU partner universities to learn about how they organise their internal quality assurance and to consider how these methods might be adapted and applied to their own institutions.

Extended deadline to participate in Trends survey: 30 June 2014

EUA would like to inform European universities that its “Trends 2015” survey will be open until 30 June 2014. The online survey, sent to the heads of all EUA member universities in January, aims to map changes in learning and teaching in European higher education institutions, and to provide a comprehensive overview of the most important developments in the European higher education landscape over several years.

High-Level Conference - ‘Mobilising Europe's Universities for Smart Specialisation’, Brussels, Belgium (20 June 2014)

Registration is still open until 13 June for the high-level conference entitled “Mobilising Europe's Universities for Smart Specialisation” that will take place in Brussels on 20 June. The event is convened by the Smart Specialisation Platform (S3 Platform), DG REGIO and EUA, with the objective to look at ways of enhancing the role of universities in Smart Specialisation.

Brussels in Brief - updates on EU developments in education and research

The Eurydice Network has published a new report entitled “Modernisation of Higher Education in Europe: Access, Retention and Employability”. Meanwhile, the European Commission announced that a committee has been appointed to identify the future members of the European Research Council's (ERC) governing body, the Scientific Council. Finally, Ministers meeting at the recent (Council of the EU) Competiveness Council adopted conclusions on the implementation of the roadmap for the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures.
