EUA publishes second paper on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

EUA has published its second Occasional Paper on the topic of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). A follow-up to the first paper published at the beginning of 2013, it is designed to inform and update EUA member universities and other interested stakeholders on the broad range of MOOCs developments that have taken place in recent months particularly in Europe and North America, but also more widely.

EUA invites experts to discuss impact of performance-based funding on universities

Twenty university leaders and senior managers met at the Copenhagen Business School on 19 and 20 February in the framework of the EUA-led DEFINE project, which explores strategies for efficient and sustainable funding of higher education in Europe.

FRINDOC Induction Working Group focuses on internationalisation for doctoral education

From 13 to 14 February 2014, an Induction Working Group took place at the University of Bergen, Norway, for the pilot group selected to participate in the FRINDOC (Framework for the Internationalisation of Doctoral Education) project. The pilot group consists of experts in doctoral education and internationalisation from 28 universities across Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Applications still open for RISP Roundtable event

The “Rankings in Institutional Strategies and Processes” (RISP) project, supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission, aims to gather information about the impact and influence of rankings on European higher education and institutional strategic decision-making. It seeks to understand how rankings and similar transparency tools impact the development of institutional strategies and processes and to propose recommendations on how they can be used to promote institutional development while also indentifying potential pitfalls that universities should avoid.

Brussels in Brief: updates on EU developments in education and research

Ministers attending this month’s Council of the EU meetings focusing on research and education adopted conclusions on progress in the European Research Area and “Efficient and Innovative Education and Training to Invest in Skills”. Meanwhile, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has launched the selection process to set up two new Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs).
