Modernisation of Institutional Management of Innovation and Research in Southern Neighbouring Countries

The MIMIR project is part of a cooperation process between Arab and European universities aimed at developing a strategic Euro-Mediterranean partnership and turning the Mediterranean region into a common area of peace, stability and prosperity. Research and innovation is one major priority of this Euro-Mediterranean partnership.

The project started on 15 October 2015 and will last until 14 October 2018.

  • Project objectives

By supporting capacity building activities in the field of research and innovation, the MIMIR project aims at opening the European Research Area (ERA) to the research community in southern Mediternnanean countries and at facilitating the integration of Moroccan and Jordanian partner institutions into the ERA. To achieve this result, the project supports the following actions:

    • In the first phase of the project, European and southern Mediterranean partners will carry out a state of the art analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of research and innovation management practices at European, Moroccan and Jordanian universities.
    • In the second phase, the results of this analysis will be used to design a roadmap containing all the necessary steps to develop an institutional innovation and research management model at Moroccan and Jordanian partner institutions. In this way, southern Mediterranean partner universities will be able to best align their performance to the ERA.
    • Finally, the new model will be piloted in partner universities; its uptake, early impact and sustainability will be monitored and evaluated by the project partners.

Throughout these different phases, Moroccan and Jordanian partner institutions will take part in study tours in European partner institutions. They will be exposed to relevant case studies that will guide them through the  improvement of their internal procedures and the assessment of their administrative and legal frameworks. Furthermore, they will develop effective strategies to expand collaboration with local and regional industry and community.

EUA’s role in the project is to identify possible research management models at the European level and collect information on implementation strategies and best practices from the European partners. The Association will also organise study tours that will take place in Europe, and will participate in field visits in Morocco and Jordan.
