Monday 13th September, 16.30-18.00: Frameworks and conditions for diversification

  • Session 1: Public funding – the role of national & regional authorities
    Plenary Room

How can public authorities set the right framework to support universities in the development of income diversification strategies?

Income diversification is driven by a number of external factors, amongst others the perception that public funding is decreasing. However, one must avoid the emergence of a substitution effect whereby income generated from alternative sources would replace public funding. Authorities must therefore commit to secure sufficient funding to universities and have a role to play in improving current funding conditions as well as fostering the development of alternative funding streams through diverse incentive mechanisms.
