World Bank and Government of Montenegro: 5th Europe and Central Asia Education Conference - Higher Education Financing at a Time of Economic Crisis, Budva, Montenegro (27 – 29 October 2009)
The World Bank and the Government of Montenegro jointly hosted the 5th Europe and Central Asia Education Conference on 'Higher Education Financing at a Time of Economic Crisis' from 27 – 29 October in Budva, Montenegro.
Amongst the 150 participants were six Education Ministers from Europe and Central Asia as well as representatives of Ministries of Finance, rectors and higher education experts from Europe, the US and Chile as well as OECD, Lisbon Council, ETF, ECORYS and other European partners.
The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of Montenegro who highlighted the need for sustained investment in higher education at a time of crisis. Prior to the event, Ministers from South East Europe gathered for an Inter-Ministerial round-table in order to discuss the scope for greater sub-regional cooperation in higher education.
